Trinity’s Life Together

Welcome to Trinity! A warm welcome to all! You are invited to fellowship and light refreshments following worship in the Narthex/Lobby.

A Message from the Pastors We’re still in the Easter Season-for another 4 weeks. Jesus Christ is risen, and we celebrate this amazing event from Easter to Pentecost! It’s a great opportunity for renewal in our hearts and in the church, as spring is reborn outside. During this time,we’re taking inspiration from 2 Chronicles: “...if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face...I will hear from heaven...and will heal their land. Our prayer is that Trinity, and everyone who enters it’s doors this season, will experience renewal of faith, health, and joy.  Please feel free to contact us. We count it a blessing to talk and pray with you.

Trinity Garden Planting, NEXT SUNDAY, June 2 Children's Church will plant Trinity's garden beds on Sunday,June 2, during worship.  Outdoor clothes and puddle boots are encouraged!  This is a great mission project for the kids. They watch the veggies grow, help with harvest, and donate to Hope Center Soup Kitchen and Shower House, which feeds the homeless downtown.

The Nursery Remodel is Almost Complete!
Thank you everyone for your support! Stop by the nursery and see the updates! We will have an open-house soon.

Grant Writer Needed Intergenerational Arctic Ministries is in urgent need of a volunteer Grant Writer.  If you  are interested in volunteering, please contact Melissa at the presbytery office at 907-276-0914, www.pbyukon.org

Anaktuvuk Pass VBS                        Thank you to all who contributed food and supplies for the upcoming AKP trip!  Stay tuned for a packing party date

Gambell Church Dedication After over 10 years, the NEW Gambell Presbyterian Church is being dedicated May 26. We join the entire Presbytery in this Celebration! Thank-you to all who have been praying, working, and supporting this much needed building.

Pentecost, June 9 and Father’s Day, June 16 Join us for these family friendly summer Sundays. Celebrate the newness God is bringing to Trinity, and the wise and wonderful men of this church and our Community.

Our Trinity Family is lifting prayers this week for:

-all who suffer from illness or injury, both physical and mental. Heal their body, mind and spirit.

-all who are recovering from surgery, recovery, sudden and ongoing sickness. Keep them strong in body and faith.

-the brave first responders who put their lives on the line everyday to help and rescue those in need.

-our loved ones who have been called home to the Lord. Bring their families peace.

-the homeless that they might seek shelter and feel safe.

“So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41:10

Inspirations From Our Prayer Team

 Inspiration from Our Prayer Team

As we Pray through II Chronicles 7:14, the emphasis this week is on “If my people will humble themselves….” Here is an excerpt from a Billy Graham devotional:

"In a city in Scandinavia, is a famous statue of our Lord.  One day a visitor standing before it was very disappointed, and he didn’t hesitate to share his feeling with an attendant.  ‘I can’t see the face of the Christ,’ he complained.  The attendant replied, ‘Sir, if you want to see His face, you must kneel at His feet.’  The visitor knelt and he saw!  Do you want to see Jesus’ face?  Kneel in prayer. - for others, for yourself, for the world, for His Kingdom— and be blessed.”

It is unclear exactly which statue is referenced in Dr. Graham’s devotion.  After doing some Wikipedia research, though, we think it might be the Christus (or Christus Consolator,) a beautiful marble statue of the resurrected Jesus by Bertel Thorvaldsen, completed in 1838. It stands in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark's Church of Our Lady in Copenhagen, Denmark.  The statue is 10.5 feet high, and Jesus is looking down with arms spread as if to welcome children. The inscription at its base says "Kommer til mig" ("Come to me.”)

Truly, we would see the face of Christ most clearly on this statue, when we humble ourselves and kneel at the height of a child - then look up in expectation of his blessing. What a wonderful posture for prayer before our Lord.

Marian Hill

Many of you will remember Marian Hill, who among other descriptors was a long-time Trinity member, Church Treasurer, and exceptional soprano soloist and choir member. Marian’s ashes will be interned with her husbands on Friday, October 27, 2017 p.m. at Angelus Memorial Park, 440 E. Klatt Road, Anchorage, AK.  A reception will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Family, friends, current and former members of Trinity are invited to attend.

Trinity Presbyterian Women Fall Tea

Trinity Presbyterian Women are having a Fall Tea on Saturday, September 30th from 12noon-3:30 pm. A light lunch will be catered by the Feed Me Hope Bakery. Yummy pastries included. The speaker will be Kathy Maitlin, a fellow Presbyterian women from the NW Synod, who participated in the U.S. Mission Experience program in 2016. Travelling to San Francisco the participants travelled around the San Francisco area learning about the trafficking of people in that part of the US by... the actual people involved with fighting that trafficking. Kathy's topic is "Out of the Darkness, Into the Light" . There will be a silent auction. The profits from that will be used for mission programs within Trinity Presbyterian Church. The Annual Thank Offering will be taken at the Tea also. The monies raised in the Thank Offering will go to 10 U.S. mission projects and 5 foreign projects. More information about these projects will be available at the Tea.Please RSVP to JoAnn Bantz at 223-9653 (text) or email JoAnn at bantz@mooseak.com. The charge for the Tea is $5.00 per person payable at the door.

Hurricane Harvey Letter & Fundraising

Dear Friend,

Over the last four days we’ve heard countless stories about lives lost and those who have been displaced and lost their homes due to Hurricane Harvey. This is one of the worst hurricanes to hit the states since Katrina.

What can you do?  Two things:

One: The following link will take you to the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance update, along with information on how/where to make a financial contribution.   This is the most immediate way to help as relief agencies are asking for funds to purchase supplies.

https://www.presbyterianmission.org/story/presbyterians-mobilize-help-people-texas-recover-hurricane-harvey/

Second: With the leadership of Elder Rich Wilson, Elder for Missions here at Trinity, we are forming a team toorganize a musical fund-raising/benefit event here at Trinity.  We hope this event will feature the Anchorage Jazz Ensemble, plus choirs from Huffman Elementary and South High School.   If you wish to join Rich in coordinating efforts, here is his contact information:

As President Trump said earlier today, this is a storm of epic proportions.  May our response to it be even more memorable.

Let us keep the people of Texas and Louisiana in our prayers.

Sincerely,

Pastor Todd Allen

One Great Hour of Sharing is ecumenical.  Many Christian denominations work together cooperatively to create the resources that interpret the offering.  Each denomination gives some of the gifts it receives for shared ministry through Church World Service.  Each denomination decides how the gifts its members give will be used.  www.pcusa.org/oghs/  PC(USA) divides our contribution into about thirds-Presbyterian Hunger Program, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Self-Development of People.  We will receive this offering during Worship on April 9th and 16th.

The Anaktuvuk Pass (AKP) Mission Trip is coming in June!  Stop by the AKP table in the lobby on April 9th to get information on this important mission and see how you can be a part of it as a traveler or local supporter.  Also, save the date for the first AKP planning meeting to be held April 30th at 11:45 in the Youth Room, Room 6.
