Trinity’s Life Together

Welcome to Trinity!

A warm welcome to all! You are invited to fellowship and light refreshments following worship in the Lobby.

A Message from the Pastors

“From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised.” (Psalm 113:3) What a gift to praise the Lord in summertime in the land of the midnight sun.  When we praise the Lord from dawn to dusk in Alaska, our worship can be practically endless.  We love to camp this time of year, as do many of you, and we find ourselves pushing our awake time farther and farther with the sunshine every night. What a joy to sing worship songs around the campfire and rejoice in God’s gifts of nature, beauty, re-creation, and toasted marshmallows! We pray your    summer brings you many moments of rest and renewal, and many     opportunities to raise your voices in praise. We hope to hear some of your summer stories of adventure and faith and always count it a blessing to talk and pray with you.

Mission Sunday, August 4, 2019

Join us for this family friendly Sunday, as James and Cheryl Cloyd, missionaries with Alongside Ministries in Strasbourg, France, as we hear about the inspiring work they do!

Help Water the Garden ~ Please!

The garden planted during Children’s Church on June 9th is thirsty and would like watering.  It takes about 30-45 minutes every other day to water the beds for two minutes each.  If you would like to help, please add your name and phone number to the sign-up sheet posted on the “In the Garden” Bulletin board in the foyer.

What Music do you love?

Please share your favorite worship songs and hymns (including artists) so we can add them to future services.  Look for the card in the bulletin, or email the church office at.  churchadmin@trinityalaska.org

Library News

Knowing God comes through reading scripture and praying. The library bulletin board, in the Lobby, features books on prayer. Come, visit our beautiful Library and check out one of  these books and learn more about communing with our infinite God. Books may be checked out any time the building is open.

Our Trinity Family is lifting prayers this week for:

-Happy 102nd Birthday on July 21st to

Rev. Alice Green!!!!

Gratitude to God for recovery from health concerns of the past year!

- those who have lost precious loved ones, we pray for those who have been left to grieve. Soften their sorrow knowing their loved one is at peace with our Lord.

-those who are traveling, for work, pleasure, or grief. Keep their journey safe.

-those scheduled for medical procedures. Calm and comfort their fears, give them a good recovery and a positive outcome.

-those who are recovering from medical issues, praise God for successful treatments and recoveries.

-people who travel as missionaries. Keep them safe and make them Instruments of the Lord’s blessings, love and peace.

-those who have entered the sacrament of Holy Matrimony, may their new life together be filled with love, peace, and joy of the Lord.

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Inspirations From Our Prayer Team

 Inspiration from Our Prayer Team

As we Pray through II Chronicles 7:14, the emphasis this week is on “If my people will humble themselves….” Here is an excerpt from a Billy Graham devotional:

"In a city in Scandinavia, is a famous statue of our Lord.  One day a visitor standing before it was very disappointed, and he didn’t hesitate to share his feeling with an attendant.  ‘I can’t see the face of the Christ,’ he complained.  The attendant replied, ‘Sir, if you want to see His face, you must kneel at His feet.’  The visitor knelt and he saw!  Do you want to see Jesus’ face?  Kneel in prayer. - for others, for yourself, for the world, for His Kingdom— and be blessed.”

It is unclear exactly which statue is referenced in Dr. Graham’s devotion.  After doing some Wikipedia research, though, we think it might be the Christus (or Christus Consolator,) a beautiful marble statue of the resurrected Jesus by Bertel Thorvaldsen, completed in 1838. It stands in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark's Church of Our Lady in Copenhagen, Denmark.  The statue is 10.5 feet high, and Jesus is looking down with arms spread as if to welcome children. The inscription at its base says "Kommer til mig" ("Come to me.”)

Truly, we would see the face of Christ most clearly on this statue, when we humble ourselves and kneel at the height of a child - then look up in expectation of his blessing. What a wonderful posture for prayer before our Lord.

Trinity Presbyterian Women Fall Tea

Trinity Presbyterian Women are having a Fall Tea on Saturday, September 30th from 12noon-3:30 pm. A light lunch will be catered by the Feed Me Hope Bakery. Yummy pastries included. The speaker will be Kathy Maitlin, a fellow Presbyterian women from the NW Synod, who participated in the U.S. Mission Experience program in 2016. Travelling to San Francisco the participants travelled around the San Francisco area learning about the trafficking of people in that part of the US by... the actual people involved with fighting that trafficking. Kathy's topic is "Out of the Darkness, Into the Light" . There will be a silent auction. The profits from that will be used for mission programs within Trinity Presbyterian Church. The Annual Thank Offering will be taken at the Tea also. The monies raised in the Thank Offering will go to 10 U.S. mission projects and 5 foreign projects. More information about these projects will be available at the Tea.Please RSVP to JoAnn Bantz at 223-9653 (text) or email JoAnn at bantz@mooseak.com. The charge for the Tea is $5.00 per person payable at the door.

Hurricane Harvey Letter & Fundraising

Dear Friend,

Over the last four days we’ve heard countless stories about lives lost and those who have been displaced and lost their homes due to Hurricane Harvey. This is one of the worst hurricanes to hit the states since Katrina.

What can you do?  Two things:

One: The following link will take you to the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance update, along with information on how/where to make a financial contribution.   This is the most immediate way to help as relief agencies are asking for funds to purchase supplies.

https://www.presbyterianmission.org/story/presbyterians-mobilize-help-people-texas-recover-hurricane-harvey/

Second: With the leadership of Elder Rich Wilson, Elder for Missions here at Trinity, we are forming a team toorganize a musical fund-raising/benefit event here at Trinity.  We hope this event will feature the Anchorage Jazz Ensemble, plus choirs from Huffman Elementary and South High School.   If you wish to join Rich in coordinating efforts, here is his contact information:

(907) 952-1502

As President Trump said earlier today, this is a storm of epic proportions.  May our response to it be even more memorable.

Let us keep the people of Texas and Louisiana in our prayers.

Sincerely,

Pastor Todd Allen
