Trinity’s Life Together

Trinity’s Life Together

Welcome to Trinity! A warm welcome to all! You are invited to fellowship and light refreshments following worship in the Lobby.

A Message from the Pastors “Therefore, If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Cor 5:17 (NIV) What a delight and comfort it is to know that in Christ, we are renewed every morning. That means we have the opportunity to face every day with fresh eyes - to set aside disappointments and let go of griefs of the past and refresh our vision of a hope-filled future. With Christ living in us, we have the power to find healing in personal relationships, face difficult situations with blessed assurance, and gain fulfillment in pursing the projects and dreams to which God has called us. Christ is our living hope, and we are alive in him! Welcome as we begin anew this autumn at Trinity. We invite you to join our congregation in growing and working and sharing and caring together. We welcome your thoughts and are here for spiritual support. Please feel free to call, text, or email us.

Inspirations From Our Prayer Team

 Inspiration from Our Prayer Team

As we Pray through II Chronicles 7:14, the emphasis this week is on “If my people will humble themselves….” Here is an excerpt from a Billy Graham devotional:

"In a city in Scandinavia, is a famous statue of our Lord.  One day a visitor standing before it was very disappointed, and he didn’t hesitate to share his feeling with an attendant.  ‘I can’t see the face of the Christ,’ he complained.  The attendant replied, ‘Sir, if you want to see His face, you must kneel at His feet.’  The visitor knelt and he saw!  Do you want to see Jesus’ face?  Kneel in prayer. - for others, for yourself, for the world, for His Kingdom— and be blessed.”

It is unclear exactly which statue is referenced in Dr. Graham’s devotion.  After doing some Wikipedia research, though, we think it might be the Christus (or Christus Consolator,) a beautiful marble statue of the resurrected Jesus by Bertel Thorvaldsen, completed in 1838. It stands in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark's Church of Our Lady in Copenhagen, Denmark.  The statue is 10.5 feet high, and Jesus is looking down with arms spread as if to welcome children. The inscription at its base says "Kommer til mig" ("Come to me.”)

Truly, we would see the face of Christ most clearly on this statue, when we humble ourselves and kneel at the height of a child - then look up in expectation of his blessing. What a wonderful posture for prayer before our Lord.

Hurricane Harvey Letter & Fundraising

Dear Friend,

Over the last four days we’ve heard countless stories about lives lost and those who have been displaced and lost their homes due to Hurricane Harvey. This is one of the worst hurricanes to hit the states since Katrina.

What can you do?  Two things:

One: The following link will take you to the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance update, along with information on how/where to make a financial contribution.   This is the most immediate way to help as relief agencies are asking for funds to purchase supplies.

https://www.presbyterianmission.org/story/presbyterians-mobilize-help-people-texas-recover-hurricane-harvey/

Second: With the leadership of Elder Rich Wilson, Elder for Missions here at Trinity, we are forming a team toorganize a musical fund-raising/benefit event here at Trinity.  We hope this event will feature the Anchorage Jazz Ensemble, plus choirs from Huffman Elementary and South High School.   If you wish to join Rich in coordinating efforts, here is his contact information:

As President Trump said earlier today, this is a storm of epic proportions.  May our response to it be even more memorable.

Let us keep the people of Texas and Louisiana in our prayers.

Sincerely,

Pastor Todd Allen
